The first maintenance day of the year took place at Gordano today and once again we were very lucky with the weather.
It was bright and sunny and not too cold. Once the work was done several
took the opportunity to grab some flying time against the clear blue
sky.
It was very reassuring to see so many eager members turn up,
especially the younger ones who helped considerably with the heavy tasks
that are way beyond the capabilities of some of us now more advanced in
years.
A lot of work has been completed since Christmas by a few
dedicated clubmen and I hope it will be appreciated by those members who
never help but will expect to just turn up and fly when it gets warmer.
Once again a big thank you to those who gave of their time today, you
really do make a difference.
Some pictures of the work group and the areas being worked on are included. The area towards the Drove end is being cleared. More than a few hundred saplings have been cut and they have been arranged around the edge of the site , forming a barrier. Other larger saplings are being stacked to allow wild life to inhabit the area. A temporary pathway has been cleared to allow the dumper to deliver soil to the pilots area. This area will be properly levelled, then a fence will be erected to facilitate tethering of models safely. A great amount of effort was put into clearing a fallen tree from our neighbouring Farmers land. This consumed much more effort that I imagined. Finally, several potholes were filled in on the old tarmac part of the Drove. All in all, a very productive day.
